Research Assistant - EBOVAC Paediatric Nurse (Sierra Leone)

£33,567 to £38,533 per annum, inclusive.

We are seeking to appoint a Paediatric Nurse to be based in Kambia District, Sierra Leone.

An Ebola vaccine trial is taking place in Kambia, in northern Sierra Leone. The trial is designed to enrol adults, adolescents and children in an age de-escalated fashion. Enrolment of adults has been successfully completed with no safety concerns paving way for adolescent stage, which is currently underway.

In order to conduct the paediatric stage of the trial (including 1-11 year olds), there is a need to strengthen the capacity of the Kambia Hospital staff as well as the clinical trial staff in paediatric history taking, physical examinations and triage to appropriate clinical diagnosis and management of tropical (and general) paediatric diseases.

The post-holder will:

The successful applicant will have Registered general nurse in country of abode; ability (no known barriers) to register and practice as a general nurse or equivalent in Sierra Leone; experience living and working abroad in resource-constrained settings; experience in providing clinical care for infectious tropical diseases; experience in providing clinical pediatric care; experience in providing training and supportive supervision in clinical care. The post is funded for a period of 11 months from the date of appointment. The salary will be on the Academic Grade 5 scale in the range £33,567 - £38,533pa (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service.  Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Director’s Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available.
