Job Profile

We are currently seeking a Global Adviser to spearhead our strategy and work on protection and further HelpAge’s global portfolio of work in humanitarian protection, and assistance in situations of conflict and disaster. Strengthening technical expertise and evidence in key areas for older people in humanitarian crises and using our expertise and experience to inform and influence global and local humanitarian response is key to our success in this. This is where you come in.

Your role

Working within our Global Technical Unit, but based in our Regional Office in Amman, you will lead and promote HelpAge’s strategy on protection and support its implementation, including through rapid short deployments when needed in response to major humanitarian crises. You will provide technical support and quality-assurance for humanitarian protection policy and programming for older people across HelpAge regions and globally. You will provide thought leadership on protection issues to HelpAge regional and country offices, network members, country governments and other partners. You will represent HelpAge in key global fora on protection, and champion our learning and work to support older people to hold duty bearers to account in the design and delivery of protection systems.

Your profile

You will bring a strong understanding of protection policy and significant technical experience in protection policy, needs assessment and programming, including at country level in humanitarian settings. You will have some knowledge and experience of capacity strengthening, training or mentoring of staff, and of working directly with global humanitarian actors, governments, donors and civil society partners in low- or middle-income countries. You will match this with the skills and commitment to bring people and teams together to ensure quality and coherence across our protection portfolio. But most important will be your ability to enthuse your colleagues, partners, network members and other actors – to foster learning, and support them in harnessing our programmes, partnerships and network to uphold and protect the rights of older people and their communities.

Closing date: 20 May 2018

Start date: From June 2018
