Professor of Health Economics

£60,166 to £103,215

The Faculty of Public Health and Policy is recruiting a Professor of Health Economics to develop an innovative research programme within a highly supportive, collegiate environment based within the newly created Centre for Health Economics in London (CHiL).

The post is integral to the Centre for Health Economics in London (CHiL), a new initiative drawing together around 50 health economists at the LSHTM. Health economists within CHiL undertake wide-ranging research of international significance and policy relevance. The post is unusual in its scope for cross-disciplinary collaboration, for example with LSHTM Centres such as Mathematical Modelling, Evaluation, and Statistical Methodology, three Department of Health support units (including PRUComm, and PIRU), and the LSHTM’s extensive range of collaborators in global health.  We welcome applications from those working on any geographical setting - high or low/middle income countries.

We are seeking an outstanding academic leader at professorial level to make a significant contribution to research and teaching. The appointee will contribute to the intellectual life of the School through conducting and publishing outstanding quality research, engaging in high quality teaching and participating in Faculty and wider School activities. The appointment is for an established Professor, or candidate whose rapid career trajectory indicates they warrant imminent promotion to a Chair.

The appointee must have a PHD or equivalent in Health Economics; a track record of publication in leading health economics and policy-related journals; ability to obtain significant research funds and a clear vision of a future research agenda, underpinned by a strong methodological and conceptual orientation. Further particulars are included in the job description.

This full-time, permanent post is based in London with a start date of 1 April 2019 (negotiable). The position is accompanied by funding for an additional post at the Assistant Professor level for an initial period of three years.

The appointment will be made at the professorial band appropriate to the appointee, using the Academic Expectations as the criteria for assessment. The salary is on the Academic Scale, Professorial (C - Bi: p.1-84) in the range of £60,166 - £103,215 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post is subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition, there are discretionary “Director’s Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available.
